Why does Macrolibrarsi invest in local economy and self-sufficiency?
What we buy and where we buy it can make a large-scale impact; therefore, we chose to support ethical and local projects
Nowadays economy is much stronger than politics, which most of the time is subject to economy’s interests. It’s clear that our real vote is represented by the purchases and the investments that we make, and not by a political vote. Moreover, politics itself is subject to the interests of multinational corporations, banks and large financial groups.
We can decide to invest in the local market, increasing the wealth of the place we live; or we can decide to buy and invest in multinational corporations, making the Stock Market rich along with few super-rich people with offshore bank accounts. When we buy at supermarkets we support urban concreting, waste production and few people’s wealth. Otherwise, when we buy in a local market we promote local farmers, reduce transportations and consumption.
Examples involve all aspects of our life, the way we spend money defines the future we want. If all of this applies for people, it’s even more important for companies, which have a greater economic power.
Who Macrolibarsi votes for
Macrolibrarsi is a company that chose to vote every day for an economy that values the local territory, the local environment and the people who live in it.
Macrolibrarsi’s head office is in Cesena and all employees live within 50 km. No one is treated differently because of his ethnicity, religion, political belief, etc. man and woman are around 50% and no difference is applied in salary, which is instead more linked to meritocracy.
The company owns an important store in Cesena, just in front of the head office, which is working well and has received many requests of franchising. However, it has been decided for the store to remain local without starting the classic process of expansion typical of these times.
Macrolibrarsi funds local initiatives of environmental awareness, workshops with schools and the project “Vivi Consapevole in Romagna” that has the aim of making our region a worldwide example of personal and environmental wellbeing.
La Fattoria dell’Autosufficienza
The opposite of self-sufficiency is dependence. If you are not self-sufficient, who do you depend on for living today? Where do your food and cosmetics come from? And your electricity? Which medicines do you use? How do you heat your house? We think we are free people, but actually we depend on big economic groups that control our lives and governments’ choices and that decide how our children should have fun and how the environment shouldn’t be protect. Their aim is clear: making us always more dependent by them, as same as every ruler has ever done. So, they patent seeds for farmers, they make us believe that chemicals are necessary for growing plants (chemicals they produce, obviously), they administer to us useless and harmful medications and they provide us with fossil fuels.
Macrolibrarsi, with the project of La Fattoria dell’Autosufficienza, wants to create a model of freedom. A place where most of the needs are fulfilled through self-production, where chemicals are banned from agriculture and building, where people can live in contact and harmony with nature. So, the most important vote of Macrolibrarsi goes to La Fattoria dell’Autosufficienza, a project with extraordinary prospects.
In 2009, when Macrolibrarsi bought the fields that today are La Fattoria dell’Autosufficienza in the municipality of Bagno di Romagna, the situation there was quite distressing. In the past the place had been used for breeding cows and pigs for meat production and it had been abandoned for more than 10 years. The buildings were in ruins, the view was spoiled by wires and electricity/telephone poles, there was no cultivation and no fruit tree, although the place had been inhabited for centuries.
So, we started a long work that is still in evolution today. We planted fruit trees of ancient varieties and various types of hedges. We delimitated fields, buried electricity and telephone wires and built dry stone walls and terraces in order to have fields more adapt for being cultivated. Today we grow ancient grains, beans, vegetables, fruit trees, forest fruits and aromatic herbs with no use of fertilizers and pesticides. At La Fattoria we don’t even do the treatments that are allowed by organic farming regulations. Besides farming, we also provide educational courses and hospitality. From 2014 and 2016 a 400-square-meter stone building that was in ruin has been renovated and today it hosts the agritourism. Also for the renovation works we tried to avoid using chemicals:
- The walls have been made with local stones and hydraulic lime;
- Then they have been insulated with hemp-lime;
- The roof and the floors have been made with wood and insulated with wood fibers;
- Plasters have been made with raw earth or hep-lime;
- Window frames have been treated with natural paints.
Thanks to the combination of all these materials, people immediately perceive a healthy air and an idea of great energy efficiency, certified by Energy Performance Certificate A4, the maximum band foreseen by the Italian legislation. Soon it will be built also a non-religious temple with octagonal shape where it will be possible to practice yoga, meditation and other activities that are eased by a natural environment connected with Nature.
The consequences of this vote
Macrolibrarsi chose to invest in La Fattoria dell’Autosufficienza and in this way it has given its vote. Instead, the classic model suggests to invest in the purchase of a big house, a SUV and a sport car, some financial investments, if possible in a pharmaceutical company or army company, which always work pretty well. Let’s try to see the difference between these 2 models of investment.
Today Macrolibrarsi is only a sand grain in a beach, but what if the whole beach started to act in this way too?
